JERUSALEM: Israel's prime ministert says he's ready to make peace with Syria and knows the price.

Ehud Olmert made the comments in an interview with the French weekly Paris Match. He told the magazine that he wants to make peace with Syria, that he's ready for it and "perfectly informed about what that means."

Officials have been saying for weeks that quiet mediation is taking place between the two countries over resolving their decades-long dispute over the Golan Heights. Israel seized the plateau during the 1967 Mideast war, and later annexed. Syria wants all the area back in return for peace.
