Frederick Hoff, a top adviser to Middle East envoy George Mitchell, met Thursday with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moallem to discuss ways to renew the peace process between Israel and Syria, the Lebanese newspaper As-Safir reported Friday.
According to the report, Washington is interested in renewing activity on the Israeli-Syrian diplomatic track.
Furthermore, As-Safir reported that Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in an interview with Syrian news sources, had expressed surprise at Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's refusal to renew the Turkish-backed mediation between Syria and Israel.
